CLASSIFICATION:

AWS A5.5: E 8018 G
IS 1395: E55BG 129Fe

DESCRIPTION:

SUNTHERM 8018 G is a basic medium heavy coated ,hydrogen controlled, iron powder type electrodes depositing a radiographic quality weld metal with 1 % Cr,0.5 Mo,0.2 V. Ideally suited for welding of steel of similar composition.

TYPICAL ALL WELD METAL PROPERTIES:

Chemical Composition (%) Mechanical Properties
C 0.08 max Mn 1.0-1.80 YS 48-55 kg/mm2
Si 0.50 max S 0.03 max UTS 56-66 kg/mm2
P 0.03 max Ni 0.5-1.20 EL (L=5d) 25-30%
Mo 0.15 max Impact (CVN) at -600C 35-80 Joules

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

SUNTHERM 8018 G has been specially designed for welding of low alloy high strength steels and some fine grained steels ( E.G ASTM class A 519,A 537) where low temperature impact properties are necessary. Typical applications would include welding of fine grained Quench & tempered steels for pressure vessels tanks, penstocks where high strength and sub zero temperatures toughness are of importance.
